Detention (2017) PC

Detention is a horror–adventure video game in which you will meet ghosts and monsters, a neat art style and the opportunity to get acquainted with the ancient spirits of Taiwan.

The game is the debut project of the Taiwanese studio Red Candle Games.

Description

The game takes place in Taiwan in the 1960s, right in the middle of a period of war that lasted 38 years. Our destination is Greenwood High School, located in a secluded mountain area. Wei is your character, falls asleep in class, and after sleeping discovers that the school is empty. There's a typhoon warning on the board, so he's trying to get home before the storm hits. After leaving school, he meets a girl named Ray, whom you also take control of. They discover that their school has been transformed into a place inhabited by evil monsters, known from local legends as evil itself. Our heroes must find a way to survive and discover the origin of the evil forces.

Gameplay

The mechanics mix elements of adventure and stealth games. We explore locations, collect items and solve puzzles. Keep in mind that our heroes are practically defenseless in open combat - players need to avoid traps and detection, if the situation is terrible and hopeless — run away. The game uses the well-known point-n-click interface, which is unexpectedly involved not only in the case of puzzles, but also during episodic arcade sequences. The world is two-dimensional: left and right are the only options for movement, however, the maps are designed so that players can freely explore areas of the game world.
