Being on the verge of bankruptcy, the once great publisher Midway saw only one way out of the situation – to give free rein to experimenters. This is the only way Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy could have been born – an extremely original and innovative game.

Metaphysics according to Newton

The end of the Cold War turned into funding problems for many US military units. The government refused all experimental military programs, one of which was the activity of Mindgate. The corporation sought out people with amazing mental data, and then conducted secret experiments on them, thereby developing their psi abilities. The resulting mutants were decided to be subjected to special radiation, the result of which is complete amnesia. Of course, not all mutants were inspired by this idea, and the resulting bunch of radicals captured several Latin American countries in a couple of weeks. Then it turned out that in order to neutralize psi-people, the same psi-person is needed – and therefore our hero comes to the forefront.

The action in Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy is built on a combination of your abilities and your weapons. If everything is more or less clear with weapons, then it is worth dwelling on the abilities in more detail. There are 5 of them in total:

1. Telekinesis.
2. Viewing (auras).
3. Moving into another person.
4. The passage of the spirit through the walls.
5. Pyrokinesis.

Each ability is unlocked by the hero as the game progresses and memory gradually returns. The thing is that everything here is based on these skills. Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy does not follow the precepts of ordinary linear shooters, forcing you to be sophisticated. There are often puzzles on the levels that can be solved only with the help of "possession" or telekinesis, passage through walls is often used for stealth passage, and viewing the aura is constantly necessary to track the state of your enemies.

It is unprofitable to go into direct confrontation. The enemies are extremely smart, so in a fight with 3-4 opponents, we probably won't get anything. That's why we successfully combine psi abilities with shooting: we throw a gas cylinder at enemies, move into a long-range sniper and kill several sentries, then open locked doors by passing through walls and pass the rest of the level unnoticed – approximately on such combinations the local passage is built.

Alas, having created fascinating mechanics, Midway for some reason made a huge number of mistakes. Artificial intelligence could "turn off", riddles often required you to keep alive people you had already killed, and instead of the Psi-Ops: The Mindgate Conspiracy save system, it was still working on checkpoints, which were 2-3 pieces for each huge level.
