On a general wave of nostalgia, Way Forward studio, specializing in 2D platformers, unexpectedly decided to resurrect one of the oldest pop gaming brands, recalling the legendary A Boy and His Blob game, which at one time contributed to the huge popularity of SNES in America and Japan.

A remake on the verge of a sequel

For this task, WayForward even wrote out a game designer who participated in the development of the original, but the game itself did not become a remake, seriously modifying the original structure. If in the old game we could endlessly run around the map in search of solutions to puzzles completely devoid of logic, now A Boy and His Blob has been brought into line with current standards. In general, the list of changes can be described by the following points:

1. Hardcore has been removed from the gameplay.
2. Riddles have become logical.
3. Each level is linear.

Each of these innovations went to the game only in plus. For example, in the local fictional world, your faithful companion turns out to be a ball eating dragees. The ability that the hero gets depends on the taste of the dragees. Some will slow down time, some will give you a shield in your hands, the third will have some other effect. If earlier it was difficult to assemble a really necessary set from all this set, now each element of the dragee is involved in local puzzles, which are now often based on physics. Hence the linearity of the game follows – riddles are now strictly tied to locations, therefore it is pointless to run around the local world (as before), because the player is limited to small levels.

The combat system has also been redesigned. We can run the level without any fights at all – by quickly solving all the puzzles and "swallowing" the game in 3-4 hours. However, it is much more interesting to fight monsters and explore every nook and cranny of local locations. The monsters are complex, and at the end of the location, the boss will also be set on you. Each enemy needs a special approach – often they can be outwitted with the help of the surrounding elements of the location or lured into a trap, but sometimes the usual forceful approach is also quite effective.

But the main change was the acquisition of an accurate concept. A Boy and His Blob is now an unusual platformer with cool puzzles, which at the same time tells a correct and very touching story. This is a game that you need to play with children – they will be happy with the drawing and the fairy tale, and you will be happy with
