All events revolve around a powerful artefact, the Green Stone, which has the power to destroy matter in the blink of an eye. This stone is stolen by the key antagonist and fierce opponent of the Smurfs, Gargamel, who intends to use the power of the artefact for his own gain. However, he makes a fatal mistake while experimenting on it, leading to an explosion in the laboratory. The stone afterwards released a dark energy that cursed Gargamel and everything around him.

The Smurfs must restore balance and eliminate the evil that has escaped. To do this, they take a risky step - they make an alliance with Gargamel, because only together there is a chance to correct what has been done.
