What Remains of Edith Finch is the structural evolution of what people call "walking simulators", the hybridization of cinematic history and the interaction of static objects. Magical realism at its best, with magic that comes not from sparks and spells, but from unusual sensations and mystery.

Description

The events tell the story of a girl who lived in the same house, where every member of the family died under strange circumstances. Edith is the last surviving member of the Finch family, and she returns to the house where she grew up to learn and remember about her family's past. The story is mostly related by a collection of short stories.

The player moves through the gradual unfolding of the narrative about the character's family, which have a completely different structure and history of the game. The action takes place inside in the immediate vicinity of a magical house on the shore somewhere in the Pacific Northwest.

Gameplay

Exploration includes puzzle solving, adventure-style play, hidden doors, and the like. This immediately forces us not to limit ourselves exclusively to the story. When you learn about the individual characters who lived in the house in the past, it will be possible to take control of their bodies, in retrospect.

In many cases, the rendering changes radically, and with it the gameplay style. Some of these characters only participate in small mini-games that go through what they did – a child on a swing, a hermit repeatedly opening a tin, etc. Others offer a real gameplay, such as a brief survival sequence transmitted in the form of a comic book, or a fun experimental control game.
