The Mooseman: Mythic Edition (2017) PC

The Mooseman is an unusual adventure that combines the iconic works of modern video games and combines them together to give a form of undoubted originality without actually copying any of them.

Plot

The story begins in a dark forest where we see a group of people. Suddenly, a man dressed in a long cloak separates from the others and begins his journey.

This silent beginning is very reminiscent of the masterpieces Limbo and Inside. The main character is a shaman, maybe a demigod, has access to Spirits and the ability to see what is hidden in people's eyes. The continuous alternation between two different perceptions gives life to simple, but quite diverse ecological puzzles. The game is based on accurate and thorough research work carried out both on the ancient myths of the Komi Republic belonging to the group of criminal investigators, and on archaeological finds preserved in the museums of the Perm Region in Russia.

Gameplay

The Mooseman combines mechanics from different genres of video games, creating an unusual and interesting mix. Originally conceived as a simple "running game", the process maintains a horizontal sliding structure, but replaces running with a slow and hieratic walk. The transition from human to spiritual perception reveals or hides the obstacles of the environment, shows the soul of inanimate objects and reveals hidden secrets in the eyes of people.

This mechanic is reduced in various types of environmental puzzles, from logical and visual puzzles to more "active" sections, in which, however, gray matter and strategy remain much more important than the player's reflexes.

The closest checkpoints make death an almost painless experience, allowing the player to concentrate on the atmosphere and the pleasure of discovery.
