Doom [Update 5] (2016) PC

The new Doom does not change the foundations of the genre created by itself and does not go beyond the classics – it is an ideal mechanical shooter, from which it is incredibly difficult to break away.

Unoriginal idea

The main thing we should know before the game: the new Doom is a sequel on the verge of a remake. This is a new part of the game, which has no reason to have any number in the name. This is a crystal shooter that ignores almost all genre trends created after the very first "duma". Plot? Local scenario inserts can be safely run through without noticing. Directing? Without wasting time on such trifles, at the right moments "doom" simply locks you in a huge arena, turns on metal and launches monsters. A cooperative? Calm down, you are alone in hell.

In such asceticism of the project, its transcendent charm. Each new cannon, each new monster, each new level is fraught with so many interesting things that the player wants to instantly test the new items for strength. But the favorite combination of players will probably be the same duo as in 1993. A hero and a double-barreled shotgun. An inseparable couple, the combination of which is cast in muscle memory. Perfect timing, memorized reloading speed, a honed eye of the range of defeat. The new Doom goes further, and offers you improvements for your favorite weapons. Slightly increase the power – and our double–barreled shotgun pierces enemies through - at such moments, "doom" seems to be the best game on earth.

Id Software carefully handled the classics, the references stick out literally from everywhere:

1. A zoo of all the monsters of the previous (except the 3rd) parts. With a redesigned appearance and behavior, but distinct features of the originals.
2. Branched, complex, multi-level maps.
3. The familiar murder weapons.
4. Several Easter eggs that allow you to transfer to the levels from the original Doom.

But the game at the same time does not seem outdated in any way. "Doom" builds ideal mechanics from familiar elements, and adds quite specific technical innovations here. The game has become much more violent: enemies are screaming, squeaking, torn to pieces and breaking through. Metal screams in my ears. The main melee weapon is a chainsaw. 

Added meaningfulness in the ent of the game: hell and Mars are now not an abstract myth in the background, but quite specific locations. Each new monster is not just a devil with a different weapon, but a devil with a very specifically prescribed behavior. This is how the new Doom turned out. Unexpectedly fresh, adrenaline and meat project, woven from old, in general, material
