Four years ago, Firaxis managed the impossible: these guys revived XCom, which had been dangling into oblivion for 20 years before. Now the guys from Firaxis have rolled out a sequel – and this is not just the classic "the same, only more", but a local revolution in the genre.

Escape from yourself

XCom 2: Deluxe Edition Edition starts to surprise from the very beginning. The events of Enemy Within are presented here in such a way that we turn from a hero almost into a destroyer of human civilization. And then everything turns over again – as a result, the commander (i.e., we) are again at the helm of the XCom project. That's just the project itself is no longer official – the aliens have enslaved the Earth for 20 years, so they have to act in a hidden underground.

This fact changes the whole usual meta-game in general. No more sitting on the spot, our base is a huge flying ship, and therefore we constantly keep our finger on the pulse, monitor the entire planet on the topic of issues of interest to us and make one diversion after another. We have a lot to do now. Time and circumstances are now pressing on us: every month the aliens come up with 3 new "chips", of which we are able to neutralize only one. Thus, the rebel team is always in a sense of discomfort.

Despite the fact that we are now flying in the air, the pumping of the base has not gone away. We are also doing research, creating new weapons and pumping our military unit. The only caveat is that there are very few people willing to join the resistance, so every engineer is now worth his weight in gold.

The tactics themselves have not changed much, but several innovations have appeared. Firstly, since we are now a partisan detachment, we start each task "by stealth". This means that we can complete the mission without firing a single shot at all. Secondly, classes have been seriously redesigned: psionics and hackers appeared, opportunities for total explosion and destruction of everything and everything were added. Aliens have also evolved, so even old acquaintances now have a couple of aces up their sleeve.

Oh brave new world

XCom 2 has not changed in its essence, it has changed very much internally. There is a really well-developed world here, where aliens are building some kind of alien socialism. There is a much deeper role-playing system here, so that each character can now be pumped into several branches. There is a flexible and diverse system of arrangement of the base, instead of the linearity from the last part. Even the levels themselves have seriously changed – if in the first XCom they were randomly generated from 5-6 recognizable patterns, then it was not possible to find similar levels here for the entire game.

At the same time, mechanically it is still the same extremely exciting game with a magical combination of tactics and randomness. This is almost a perfect sequel, improving and refini
