The Settlers: Heritage of Kings is a computer video game in the genre of real–time strategy, which is the fifth part of the eponymous series, while having serious differences over previous projects.

A well-known studio called Blue Byte Software worked on the development of the game.

Plot

The action takes place in a fictional universe, which is very reminiscent of medieval Europe. The main character becomes a young knight named Dario.

He lives in a small village, which is periodically attacked by Black Riders. Over time, you will learn that they terrorize not only the settlement of Dario, but also others – he decides to unite them and go to war against tyrants.

Then he learns his past. The guy is the heir to a once powerful empire that was destroyed by the Black Riders. Now he has a goal to unite the old provinces and stand on his rightful throne.

Gameplay

In general, The Settlers: Heritage of Kings has similarities with previous video games in the series, but due to innovations it is seriously transformed. Among the main changes it is worth noting the following:

• the mechanics of the dynamic change of weather and time of year have appeared, which seriously affects the gameplay (for example, during winter, the hero can lure enemy units to the ice, and then break it under them, drowning the enemy army);
• added heroes – units that are significantly superior in strength to the basic ones, and also have unique abilities in service;
• porters have been removed, and the mechanics of resource and commodity chains have been seriously simplified.
