Prototype (2009) PC

An action adventure set in an open world represented by modern New York. The hero of the game must cope with the superpowers that suddenly appeared in him in order to stop the spread of the mutagenic virus.

Plot

Alex Mercer does not know how he ended up in the morgue of the Gentek Corporation, and why they were going to open him. The hero escapes from the building and discovers that he has now become almost invulnerable to shots, can jump high and throw heavy objects. There was also the ability to transform the body, turning its parts into weapons or armor.

Meanwhile, the protagonist is accused of spreading a virus that turns the inhabitants of the metropolis into mutants, and they declare a hunt for him. Few people know the truth about Alex and the causes of the virus, but they pursue their goals. Who the hero really is will become known only closer to the finale.

Gameplay

The events take place in a detailed simulated Manhattan neighborhood, all locations of which are available to visit from the first minutes of gameplay. The map shows failed missions and places where military and mutants congregate. Moving between objects is possible in horizontal and vertical planes. The protagonist is able to make impressive jumps, as well as plan in the air for some time. Falling from a height does not affect the amount of health, which is limited here.

With enemies, Alex can engage in open combat or use a stealthy passage. Stealth elements are based on the hero's disguising abilities – he can take the form of non-player characters.

Combat system

Mercer's main weapon is his own body. The protagonist is capable of:

• modify the upper limbs into a blade, sledgehammers, claws, whip, shield;
• increase muscle volume to lift heavy objects;
• turn the skin into a kind of armor;
• it's great to see in the dark.
