SteamWorld Dig (2013) PC

An interesting mix of arcade and platformer from indie developers. Thanks to this game, you will remember that in the days of the Wild West, not only farmers and cowboys flourished, but also gold miners. Somewhere in the bottomless depths of the mine, a treasure is waiting in the wings, which the gamer needs to get to.

An unusual story

A guy named Rusty decides to inquire about the health of his uncle, who lives in the town of Tumbleton. Arriving at the place, the hero discovers the body of his uncle near his mine. Why the relative died is unclear. But somewhere in the mine there is something valuable, because Rusty goes underground with his uncle's pickaxe.

At first glance, an ordinary plot, if you don't know that all the characters in the game are robots. For some reason, in the Wild West, they remained the only form of intelligent life. The local entourage is replete with steampunk elements, but the developers did not forget about the atmosphere of the late 19th century: the heroes, although robots, but, as expected, in boots and cowboy hats. And the provincial town is depicted quite in the style of westerns.

Underground

That's where the newly minted treasure hunter will spend most of his time. All the passages dug by Rusty are preserved, therefore the underground route needs to be considered. For example, so that a huge boulder does not fall on the robot's head.

The gameplay scheme is simple: we find valuable rocks, sell precious metals and crystals in the town, and use the money to buy upgrades. A miner cannot do without an improved pickaxe, an additional slot in the inventory and a long-lasting glow lamp.

While mining gold, Rusty from time to time finds himself in caves, where valuable finds like steam-powered boots are waiting for him. In the caves, the robot's life will be in danger: incomprehensible arthropods and troglodytes are not happy with an unexpected guest. This is where the skills of passing platformers will come in handy.
