The first Test Drive Unlimited made a small revolution in the entire racing genre. Having built cool physics for cars, Edem Games studio took, and built its game not around racing, but around the open world. I painted a whole island, launched half a hundred cars there, and gave the players complete freedom. The players liked it – and Edem Games has already matured a plan for a sequel.

The Lost Generation

The difference between the first and second part of Test Drive Unlimited is as much as five years. A decent time if we're talking about a racing game. In the genre, however, nothing interesting has happened over the years, and therefore the game was expected. The developers also fueled interest with various announcements:

1. They promised a full-fledged dramatic plot.
2. As many as a hundred cars with additions in subsequent DLC.
3. Full scope on online.
4. Even more free movement on the new tropical island.

In general, Test Drive Unlimited 2 looked like a perfect sequel – everything is the same, only bigger and better. The players did not doubt the success of the game, when suddenly a wave of devastating reviews collapsed.

What happened to Edem Games over these 5 years is unclear, but Test Drive Unlimited 2, not only did not develop the beginnings of the original, but also ruined everything that had already been done. For example, the physics of cars has changed from extreme realism to a full arcade. The cars behaved as strangely as possible, they did not feel the weight and speed, and they turned almost strictly at an angle of 90 degrees. It was equally unpleasant to drive here in any of the hundreds of cars.

This would have been enough for the failure of the game, but Edem Games finished off Test Drive Unlimited 2 and other "finds". The story here is cliched and simply went. We are told about the golden youth hanging out, bathing in show-offs and talking in patterns. Why this is necessary in the race is unclear.

The idea with online also failed. The servers were "hanging" so that almost all players instantly logged out of the online profile when entering the game. In the single, at least it turned out to play without lags. As a result, those who revived the entire Edem Games series themselves buried their offspring. Today there is neither Atari, nor Ed
