The project, being developed by the German studio Deck 13 Interacrive, was warmly received by the gaming community immediately after its release, and there are many reasons for this. One of the really weighty ones is the fact that the gameplay of The Surge is similar in many ways to the hardcore mechanics of such an industry giant as the Souls series. Let the medieval environment be replaced by the ruins of a man-made world mixed with piles of garbage, and instead of demons, the player will be confronted by various robots, the essence remains the same: any mistake is likely to lead to a quick death, bearing unpleasant consequences, and each of the opponents will really be a challenge for the user.

The plot of the game takes place in the distant and not at all bright future: humanity has exhausted all the internal resources of the planets, and, as a result, many natural disasters of various kinds have fallen on civilization. The situation is worsened by the presence of a giant company engaged in the universal robotization of mankind.
