SpeedRunners (2016) PC

SpeedRuners is the type of games that, based on one simple concept, are able to keep a player at the monitor for dozens of hours. An easy-to-learn arcade game that, on closer inspection, turns out to be a hardcore runner playing on reflexes.

The game can generally be described in one sentence – "cartoon superheroes are running a race." That's it. However, it was enough for the developers to add a few details – and this race turned into a tough and brutal competitive game, where at the first mistake the player drops out of the race. So, before us is a superhero race, side view.

Each of them has a limited set of abilities:

1. Take an object on the map and throw it at the opponent.
2. Fire a rocket.
3. Push off from the wall.
4. Jump.
5. Throw a hook at a special point to speed up the flight.

Add to this the unique objects at each level: the leaders are able to turn on deadly lasers, close doors right in front of the pursuers or change the route on the go. Absolutely every race consists of such a set: the heroes go ahead, make each other's tricks and break out into the leaders. Stragglers are "cut off" in the simplest way: the camera is centered on the leader, and the review decreases with every second – as a result, the rider who remains "behind the scenes" is eliminated.

Easy to master, difficult to become a master

A simple concept in fact requires you to be extremely concentrated: the levels need to be learned by heart, you have to run almost blindly, and the speeds eventually become such that the eyes simply do not have time to follow something other than your own character. At some point in SpeedRuners, you start playing exclusively on reflexes – as if you were a Formula 1 racer. Somewhere here, between the player and the project, that chemistry happens that made SpeedRuners one of the main party games of the entire steam.
