The Patrician IV is a video game in the genre of real–time strategy and economic simulator, which takes place during the Middle Ages in Western Europe. The key attention in the setting is paid to the heyday and power of the so-called Hanseatic League. It originated in the 12th century and lasted until the 13th and consisted of free cities and small states of Europe.

Unlike most strategic video games, in The Patrician IV, the main focus is not on battles – they are revealed here to a lesser extent. Within the framework of the narrative, the gamer should primarily use such mechanics as trade, industry, diplomacy and political intrigue.

In addition, the main character is not the king, but the owner of a trading company who dreams of becoming the richest tycoon in Europe. According to tradition, everything starts small – a gamer chooses a starting medieval city and establishes a small trading company there.

It is not easy to achieve your goals and you will have to perform the following actions:

1. Compete with other trading companies, the number of which reaches 8 and they act as competently as possible, because the development of artificial intelligence is at the highest level.
2. Skillfully maneuver between supply and demand.
3. Conduct political games, threaten competitors, bribe them and even deceive them.
4. Gain the trust of local residents, build cities for them and improve their quality of life, as support will help to gain credibility.
5. Fight against pirates, bandits, royal armies and other opponents – and in the form of both sea and land battles.
