The Lord of the Rings: War of the Ring
The Lord of the Rings: War of the Ring is a real–time strategy game, the plot of which sends the user to the fantasy universe of Middle-earth, familiar to many from the famous Lord of the Rings trilogy.
The game partially repeats the plot of the movies, but also offers a perfect new campaign, the actions of which take place before the events of the War of the ring.
Plot
In total, the gamer is offered to go through two campaigns – for the forces of light and darkness. The actions of the first take place during the canonical plot and are dedicated to the confrontation of dwarves, humans and elves with the armies of Sauron and Saruman. As part of its passage, it is necessary to free Rohan, repel the attack on Helm's Pad, fight the orcs under the walls of Minas Tirith, destroy Minas Morgul and give the final battle at the Black Gate.
The campaign of darkness takes place much earlier and is dedicated to such events as the restoration of the fortress of Dol-Gundur and the war against the elves of Mirkwood. Then the actions smoothly turn to the war against Gondor, and the final battle becomes the assault on Minas-Itel, which will eventually become the stronghold of the sorcerer king and an outpost for future attacks on human forces.
Gameplay
Despite the decent graphics for its time and an interesting storyline, the strategy of The Lord of the Rings: War of the Ring undeservedly did not gain popularity, but over time it was still remembered by gamers. Among its main gameplay features, it is necessary to note:
- Each faction has the opportunity to hire special hero units that can raise their level and use unique abilities in battle.
- The opposing sides also have a unique set of units and buildings, as well as special spells.
- In each mission, the gamer needs to build a city from scratch, extract resources for the construction of buildings, hire troops and support people, and then send them to fight in order to destroy all the buildings of the enemy.
- All units are implemented on the principle of "rock-paper-scissors", and thus, spearmen, for example, gain an advantage against cavalry, but are inferior to swordsmen and so on for each type o
