Submerged (2015) PC

Submerged is an adventure game about children who find themselves in the conditions of a water post-apocalypse. There are no monsters, an acute shortage of resources and other serious troubles here. At the same time, the simple gameplay mechanics and the beautiful surrounding world make this game a suitable entertainment for the peers of the local characters.

Sister and brother

Teenage girl Miku and her younger brother Taku arrive on a flimsy boat in a flooded city. The boy has a serious wound on his stomach, so his sister leaves him in the temple, and she goes in search of medicines and provisions. How two minors ended up far from civilization, the gamer does not immediately find out, but only passing the story missions.

Flooded metropolis

The Unreal Engine 4 engine and the imagination of the developers made it possible to create impressive locations of the city, almost completely submerged under water. Skyscrapers and huge monuments, which the elements could not overcome, testify to the former greatness of the metropolis. Among the latter there are structures resembling the Statue of Liberty, the Eiffel Tower. The catastrophe, of course, affected everything that was once created by human hands.

Broken windows, walls overgrown with moss, palm trees growing right on the roofs will not hide from attention even with a cursory glance. However, even with such signs of desolation, the city does not seem dull and dead: beautiful vines twine along the wires, the water shimmers with azure under the sun's rays, and dolphins jump out every now and then near the boat of the main character. However, Miku cannot interact with the environment: neither climb inside the houses, nor, for example, stroke a dolphin.

Exploration and contemplation

Playing as a girl with a third-person view, you need to navigate by boat and collect various items that reveal the mystery of the disaster that occurred. Despite the not very convenient management of the only mode of transport, the heroine does not risk dying either from hitting a building or from a collision with huge fish. In the water, you can pick up boosters that accelerate the boat, although the girl has nowhere to hurry.

In addition to the water, there is also a ground part of the gameplay, consisting of climbing the walls of buildings in order to get to the roof. There you can find bandages and food supplies.
