Gang Beasts is an unusual fighting game, where the main role is played not so much by the skill playing, as by a happy accident, a ridiculous coincidence or banal luck.

Meat fighting game

It is important to understand – Gang Beasts is not a fighting game in the typical genre sense. There are only two strike buttons here, and they work almost at random. The rest of the time, if you fight, it will be with the catastrophic circumstances of the environment. A typical Gang Beasts session looks something like this. You and a few of your friends end up on a map where certain conditions have already been created. How do you, for example, find yourself on the roof of two moving truckers?

Every wrong move, every missed blow can lead to your character simply falling. This is complemented by the absurd physics of sausage characters, whose movements are trite and difficult to control. And you always find yourself in such situations. A burning factory, a battle on two mounting platforms near a skyscraper, balancing on sinking ice floes and much more – Gang Beasts always puts you in an idiotic situation, forcing you to fight at the same time.

Power in Motion

As already mentioned, one of the most difficult things in Gang Beasts is the movement of the character. Here the game takes the baton of ragdoll fighting games and acts in a similar manner. A separate button is responsible for each movement of the character. That's why you can't just go to the left and immediately change course to the right – your character with all his sausage grace will simply plop to the ground. It is also impossible to squat with a run, smear with a blow from a jump (deplorable consequences) and generally do something outside the laws of physics.

It turns out, of course, insanely funny. Players run erratically, occasionally get into each other, but most often they are just trying to cope with external circumstances. Constant unstable objects on the locations also add fire: then the platforms will start to wobble, then the ice floes will go under water. Simple, it would seem, things – but it all looks hilarious.

The only problem with Gang Beasts is that the game is being made by an inexperienced and very small team, and therefore, even two years after the release of the alpha version of the game in Greenlight, the project did not reach a full release. Bugs still pop up periodically, and some patches radically change the balance. Not everything is fine with the network code – the easiest way is to create a server for playing with friends yourself.
