The Town of Light (2016) PC

The Town of Light is a psychological thriller, implemented in the first person, in which the developers decided to tell a dark story about an actual place in Italy.

The game is the debut work of a small studio Lka.it .

Gameplay

The events begin in our time, and the action takes place in an abandoned shelter in the Italian city of Volterra. This institution has existed since the nineteenth century and is one of the most famous of its kind on the Italian peninsula, but it was closed in 1978 along with many other facilities in Italy. The creators of The Town of Light decided to present the history of this place, paying special attention to the dramatic experience of the residents, for many years.

To this end, the developers carefully recreated the institution in Volterra (both inside and outside) and collected a wealth of research material about it, including stories of people associated with the history of the facility. The player learns about the abandoned resort and its past by taking on the role of 16-year–old Renee, a fictional character who comes to Volterra in search of lost memories. The girl suffers from schizophrenia, so the adventures are hindered by symptoms related to her condition, as well as her fears and other emotions. While we wander around the shelter, we are guided by the voice of the heroine.
