Borderlands 2 (2012) PC

Borderlands is a synthesis of a fantastic shooter, RPG and racing based on the Unreal 3rd generation engine. The game is notable for its non-photorealistic graphics, called tsel–shading - when the contours of models are drawn as a result of rendering.

What is the plot about

Earthlings are finishing off their planet, and therefore they are forced to send colonists to a similar one. Expectations were not met – Pandora turned out to be gutted before them, and in fact there is nothing of value here. Those who had the opportunity, flew off the planet immediately, realizing this. Those who remained hoped that their predecessors had left something behind, and scoured the remains of their buildings until the local winter began to give way to spring. This awakened the local fauna…

In parallel, a Repository is discovered, about which a couple of things are known:

• those trying to get inside were killed by a protective barrier;
• dead archaeologists will not tell about the location of the Repository;
• unknown artifacts are stored in it.

Setting

We choose a character from four proposed classes that differ in skills, and go to complete quests from NPCs, gain experience to improve and discover new skills. At first, a couple of slots are available for weapons and a dozen for other items. Over time, the number of the first increases: slots for first aid kits, grenades and shields appear. The number of the second is increased by searching for appropriate modules or repairing robots.

Random weapons

Borderlands' strong point is procedural weapon generation. You will not be able to meet a pair of absolutely identical guns in several playthroughs of the game. Purchased, matched, found and created weapons are generated on the fly thanks to advanced algorithms. All units have their own indicators:

• rate of fire;
• accuracy;
• relics;
• the probability of causing additional damage due to arson and other effects.
