Renoir (2016) PC

Made on the Unreal Engine 4, the Renoir game in many ways resembles the black-and-white graphic novels by Frank Miller and the film Sin City. The project is named after the main character – James Renoir. In accordance with all the canons of the noir genre, James is a police detective in a city where everything is mired in violence, cruelty, sin. He is investigating the mayor's criminal activities. However, the presented game is not a tracing paper from the "City of Sin", it has many unique features of its own.

Gameplay and graphics features

Unlike films and games in the noir genre, this creation of the Black Wing Foundation company is equipped with many mystical elements. For example, the main character needs to avoid sunlight in any way – it becomes clear that he is already a creature from the other world, or interact with ghosts. Other gameplay features are:

1. A combination of several game genres – platformer, arcade, puzzle.
2. James Renoir has to investigate the murder of himself!
3. The main gameplay is built on putting out light sources.
4. The main character has the ability to control ghosts.
5. Much attention is paid to solving detective and logical problems.

It is also worth noting the original style of presenting the plot – through animated videos that are very similar to Frank Miller's comics. This is a city where femme fatales live, the mafia is all-powerful, and the police are not much different from bandits, and it's always raining.

Evaluations

Having failed to raise the required amount on Kickstarter, the Czech company Soulbound Games refused the submitted project in favor of the Ukrainian Black Wing Foundation.
