Layers of Fear: Inheritance (2016) PC
Inheritance is an addition to Layers of Fear – an eccentric game in the genre of "psychological horror", presented by the Polish developer Bloober Team.
For those who did not play the first part, we will briefly describe its plot. The main character in it is an artist suffering from schizophrenia. A sick man, tired of everything, lives alone in a large mansion and paints pictures between bouts of hallucinations. From time to time, a man plunges into memories of his family, thanks to which we learn its terrible secrets. Interestingly, we can influence the meaning, course and ending of the story ourselves – the game has three alternative endings. In Inheritance, the presentation of the plot as a whole has remained the same, but the perspective of the narrative has changed.
The storyline
The main character in the supplement, or rather, the heroine, is the daughter of the aforementioned artist, who inherited a terrible illness from her father.
There are fewer frightening scenes with the curvature of the walls and other modifications of the surrounding space and objects here than in the main game, since the main emphasis is on revealing the history of the family, as it looks in the memories of the daughter.
So, the daughter returns to the Victorian-style house where she spent her childhood, visits all its rooms, in each of which various flashbacks arise in her imagination, which we witness. As it turned out, she grew up in a very difficult environment: her father and mother were constantly in conflict with each other. But which of them was really a tyrant, and who was the victim? That's what you have to find out.
Features of the game
The addition really turned out to be interesting. In several points , its features can be described as follows:
- a look at past events from the perspective of the artist's daughter;
- more emphasis on history than on aimless wandering around the house, which prevailed in the previous part;
- the addition can be completed again, as it has 2 different endings;
- the almost complete absence of "intimidating" scenes, which only benefited the game;
- a greater number of different plot twist
